National River Basin Strategy
- Chile’s National Basin Management Strategy was drafted in 2006 by an Inter-Ministerial Committee.
- Key goals include safeguarding water resource quality and quantity and striking a balance between conservation and consumption by promoting sustainable industrial use.
RESULTS
- The Copiapó, Rapel (Cachapoal), and Baker river basins are currently under pilot management programs.
Biodiversity Protection
- CONAMA is making a concerted effort to protect relevant ecosystems and endangered species.
- Chile’s National Biodiversity Policy identifies 68 priority sites.
- New national parks have been created, including the first marine park.
